The forty-four foundations of mindfulness
Bhikkhu Brahmavamso.

The Zen Buddhist priest talked a lot about how to practice the Four Foundations of Mindfulness France (Satipatthana), except for the monks. So, in short sermon today, I would like to follow this trend to present a few observations about the fact that meditation, which is an instruction of the Buddha which probably had many misconceptions in Product Buddhist meditators.
What you have been involved in the Buddhist center, the teacher must have heard many claims that France's four foundations of mindfulness, "a single path" toward Enlightenment. Although this statement seems to confirm and attractive, but in truth, it was not the proper interpretations of the original classic, and also inconsistent with Buddhist teachings in other texts. Pali phrase " Ekayana Magga "in the texts of 10 (Sutta) in central Beijing is usually translated as" the only way "is also used in the texts of 12 (Leo the Great Economic hip) and mean obviously means "a path with a single purpose." There are many different paths but with a common purpose. In fact, "the only way" The Buddha was referring to, not the four foundations of mindfulness, which is the chief Eight Path (Eightfold Path), as in the Dhammapada:
"In every way, the path is the chief Eight wins the most (...)
This is the only way, no other way, to go to the pure perception ".
Thus, "only path" to enlightenment, as Buddhists are all well known, is the Noble Eightfold Path. The four foundations of mindfulness (Satipatthana) is only part of the way there. It is only the first part 7 (Mindfulness). In addition, there is detailed Concentration 8th, and also with Right View, Right Thought, Right Effort, and expenses of the President About 3 (Right Speech, Right Action, and Right Livelihood). Each element of this part are equally necessary, to achieve Enlightenment. If any part is not necessary, but must have the Buddha taught spatula Chief, Chief of Six Paths, etc. But, in classic, when he also always mention the chief spirituality. So, in practice and work your practice, you should always keep in mind that all eight factors of the Noble Eightfold Path needs to be cultivated and full uniform, as "a way only ".
Legal Foundations of Mindfulness practice as the Buddha's teaching is a highly sophisticated level. High levels so that the Blessed One teach that if someone can practice the four foundations of mindfulness that serious manner that he has made, within seven days, he or she can be reached or attained Enlightenment Real Lai ( Sutta). Many yogis have attended retreats 7 days, 10 days or more and still not achieve a result as Buddha's noble promises. Why is that? I think it is because they have not practiced strictly in accordance with the Buddha's teachings.
If you want Satipatthana practice in a manner that Buddha said that results Enlightenment fast approaching, there are many things that you need to complete before you begin to contemplate. The preparation of this work can be summarized as follows: You need to practice fully spent seven other part of the Noble Eightfold Path. Or to put it another way, as the Buddha preached in Anguttara ("Nine French - Mindfulness Products", Business 63 and 64), you must observe the strict rule is 5, 5 hindrances abandon (greed , the following powers, sloth, exchange currency, doubt), then Mindfulness meditation.
The prerequisite of this crucial fact was Lord Buddha preached in two texts on the four foundations of mindfulness (in Middle School Ministry and Ministry) in Pali verse: "Loke Abhijjha-Domanassam". This verse is often translated as "after photographers for taking advantage of life" or similar. Such translations are often not well understood and yogis often they see that the Buddha's teachings, and therefore, they did not achieve any results! At the time of the Buddha was alive, the monks, nuns, and lay people must have understood that sentence means "let go after five hindrances"! The official commentaries on two Sutta are all clearly explained that the phrase Abhijjha-Domanassam is used to indicate the year of. In the other texts of the Buddha preached, Abhijjha is synonymous with first hindrances, Domanassam is synonymous with hindrances second, and if shared together - in the Pali language - which is shorthand for groups five hindrances. This means that the five hindrances to be let go before the start of practice mindfulness. So, in my opinion, because the student tries Mindfulness meditation while still on the hindrances and problems that they have not achieved good long-term results.
The function of the lens to reach the floor meditation (Jhana) - spent part of the Eightfold Path is Right Concentration - is to let go of all hindrances year to help implement the insight. In 68 of the Central Business (Business Nalakapana), the Buddha taught that the practitioner has not reached the floor Jhana meditation, along with any hindrances in touch and lazy will invade the mind and stay there. Only when the person reaches the floor meditating on the five hindrances along with whatever new peanut lazy and do not invade the mind and not stay there. Buddha taught so clearly.
Yogis who have direct experience of this powerful meditation floor than he had learned, through personal experience, the true nature of mind after the hindrances have to let go. Yogis do not know the story of meditation is not to understand the subtle forms of hindrances. They thought that the hindrances which to let go, but in fact, they were not aware of them, and therefore, did not achieve good results while meditating. Hence the practice of concentration meditation (Samatha) meditation to nourish the floor Jhana is part of mindfulness, and so if that method Mindfulness (Satipatthana) is a legal "pure Vipassana" (Vipassana ), this is not very accurate. My teacher, Mr. Ajahn Chah , has repeatedly said many times that Samatha and Vipassana - Tranquillity and insight, and insight - to go together , are inseparable, like two sides of the same money.
After you persevere complete the work necessary to prepare, yogis can now dwell mindfully on one of four topics: my body, the feeling of pain or bliss, consciousness, and objects of interest. When the hindrances have been extinguished and the student can maintain the strong force to be mindful of this section, then the student can reflect the deep part of the mind, deeper than the receiving common sense, the impermanent nature of the so-called Ego that we often cling to it. We often assume that this is my body, is my feeling that the happiness or suffering is concerned with ego, that the mind is observing my soul, that the object of interest as is the official thought and action (the "selection") is the Ego, the I, is mine. The purpose of the four foundations of mindfulness meditation is to guide students to do after they get out of meditative story, to discover the illusion has been cleverly disguised by the so-called Ego, and then see what Buddha discovered, it is the Truth of Anatta.
It is not easy to do, not anyone can do in a short time, but it is feasible, can be completed in seven days. But as long as students have practiced fully and strictly follow the Buddha's teachings that do not run in a lane off the other.
